What’s new about Citicoline?

Although Citicoline has been known for many years now, and it might seem that it has already been thoroughly and completely researched in terms of potential applications and beneficial effects on human health, it’s not necessarily true. In fact, new discoveries are still being made and new possibilities of using Citicoline are constantly researched and verified by numerous researchers.

Citicoline - recent discoveries

A good example of new discoveries studies conducted in the recent years on potential benefits of Citicoline in treating ADHD. Interestingly, Citicoline was found to have beneficial effects on cognitive and behavioral symptoms of ADHD in children, improving their attention having a positive impact on impulsivity and hyperactivity of the little patients.

Another recent discovery about Citicoline is the possibility of using it as an effective therapy support in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The initial results of the study are very promising, suggesting that co-treatment with Citicoline visibly improved histopatological NASH outcomes and slowed down the progression of the disease.

Similarly promising are studies suggesting that Citicoline may be an effective neuroprotector for newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). The number of newborns developing seizures was significantly lower in the citicoline-treated group of neonates, and their cranial ultrasound and MRI results were also better.
